WOMBATS (Women's Mountain Bike & Tea Society) was founded by off-road cyclist Jacquie Phelan to promote women's awareness, partnership, and practice in the art of mountain bikng. Phelan consciously channelled early women riders such as Francis Willard, in the creation of WOMBATS.

WOMBATS offer training in the art of mountain biking and comaraderie among its peers.  The purpose of the various WOMBAT chapters is to introduce mountain biking to women and to create a larger female demographic within the sport. The brainchild of Jacquie Phelan, WOMBATS are meant to establish a revolution of sorts in the mountain biking world so that is not so widely male-dominated.  (But men are invited to join too!)
